Personal

Reverend Rueben Y. Dockery, Sr., is a thirty-six-year resident of Nashville-Davidson County, Tennessee. He has been happily married for twenty-eight years. Together he and his wife have two adult children, a daughter, and a son. Their children are shining products of the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System as well as the private school community of Nashville.

Occupational Background

For the last twenty–seven years Rueben Dockery has been a pastor (Beythel Family Church and previously at Mount Sinai Cumberland Presbyterian Church).  He is the founder of BUILDING FAMILIES & COMMUNITIES (BFC) MISSIONS INCORPORATED, a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization. DOCKERY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY, private Christian school and THE DOCKERY AGENCY, LLC, an independent insurance agency.  Over the years he has served in various capacities:

  1. Special Education teacher in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System,

  2. Treatment Counselor in a dual diagnosis psychiatric center (First Hospital Corporation),

  3. Institutional Designee at a youth detention center (Tennessee Department of Children Services),

  4.  Producer and radio talk show host (1470AM WVOL), resident panel member of a local radio talk show (“Straight Talk” – 760AM) for ten years

  5. Executive Producer of a cable television show (The Building Family & Community Show, cable channel 19 NECAT).

Civic Involvement

  • 2022 Candidate for Tennessee Senate District 21

  • Appointed Member of an Educational Task Force, 2008 (by the Honorable, Mayor Karl F. Dean)

  • Educational Reform Advocate (Author of a Charter School Application in 2003)

  • Identified service provider with the Davidson County Juvenile Court and “211” of Nashville

  • Boy Scouts of America-Middle Tennessee Council (former Executive Representative/former assistant Pack Leader, 231)
